“Partnerships and collaborations play an important role for CondAlign’s commercialization strategy” - Harald Breivik, CEO, CondAlign

October 3, 2024

Harald Breivik is the CEO of CondAlign, a Norwegian technology company part of Nordic Technology Group (NTG), that is developing and supplying conductive films for connecting electronics and transferring heat. This year, we’ve announced our partnership with CondAlign, through which we will use CondAlign’s proprietary E-Align anisotropic, conductive film to connect our displays to a wide range of electronic devices, unlocking new markets and applications.

Can you describe CondAlign's core mission and vision?

CondAlign's vision is to be the preferred supplier of sustainable functional films and enable our customers to develop innovative and environmentally friendly products.

Our mission is to develop, manufacture, and deliver ground-breaking technology which is translated into innovative and sustainable products. By the use of either our technology or products, CondAlign will be an enabler for our customers, supporting them to make innovative, high performing and more sustainable products for the future - saving cost, energy, and limiting use of precious materials.

How do you see the company evolving in the next 5-10 years?

We will be an attractive place to work, a profitable and still growing business that brings value to our owners and customers. Our goal is to be a significant manufacturer of innovative conductive materials on a global scale. We will increase our portfolio of good products and have large volume production through established manufacturing partners. The sales organization will cover all the important markets and support our customers to achieve success.

What recent technological advancements or innovations have been developed at CondAlign that you are particularly proud of?

I’m proud of all the achievements we have made by transforming CondAlign from a purely R&D company to a business that is developing, manufacturing and selling products.

The agreement and technical work that we have done with Ynvisible is of course a significant achievement for us as a team.

What are some important opportunities and challenges in electronics right now that influence CondAlign’s strategic approach?

Our cost-effective and simplified bonding technology is an enabler for more environmentally friendly electronic products. Our products are attractive to printed electronics manufacturers and make a positive contribution to a reduced carbon footprint and simplified recycling of electronics.

How is CondAlign addressing sustainability within its operations and products?

With our core technology we are able to manufacture our conductive products using far less precious conductive materials than alternative solutions, and consequently contributing to a lower carbon footprint. Furthermore, our products are manufactured in a low energy, cost efficient and environmentally friendly Roll-to-roll manufacturing line. Third party life cycle analysis shows that CondAlign’s products contribute to a significantly lower carbon footprint than competing solutions.

What role do you see for CondAlign in the growing field of the Internet of Things (IoT)?

Within the area of IoT, I think CondAlign’s products can be an enabler for use of new materials, miniaturization and cost efficiency. As an example, we can bond electronics to sensitive materials like degradable material, paper, etc. Overall, this will enable more sustainable IoT products and have a positive impact on the environment.

What role do partnerships and collaborations play in CondAlign’s strategy? What about the partnership with Ynvisible, specifically?

Partnerships and collaborations play an important role for CondAlign’s commercialization strategy. Bringing a new technology to the market is hard work for the team, but just as important is the collaboration with our partners during testing, qualification and market introduction. Understanding customer needs, use cases and limitations are key to commercial success. Through our partnership with Ynvisible we have been able to develop a better product for our end users.

I’m happy to say that we are in the process of materializing a few specific opportunities based on our close cooperation with Ynvisible.
